Internships
Building a life and career as an artist is not necessarily simple. New York Arts Program recognizes the impact professional experience can have on students pursuing creative fields.
Entering the professional realm in NYC with the guidance of NYAP faculty and staff allows students to start constructing a sustainable career and creative practice that is unique to them as individual artists.
How it works
Every student at the New York Arts Program participates in at least one internship in the arts/creative industries. Students collaborate with a faculty mentor before arriving to NYC to secure internships that are specific to their unique interests and ambitions.
Whether you are coming to NYC to focus on developing your art practice or to immerse yourself in a creative industry, NYAP faculty will guide you through a combination of coursework and internship experience that points you in the right direction.
Students’ course loads determine how many hours of internship work they have each week.
For example:
1 course + 30-hour internship
2 courses + 20-hour internship
3 courses + 10-hour internship
We strongly encourage students to participate in internships while at NYAP. That being said, there are occasional instances in which a student cannot apply internship credit to their degree. It is possible for students to enroll in a full course load (four courses) and bypass the internship requirement if necessary.
Internship Examples
Because students work one-on-one with their faculty mentor to secure internships customized to their specific interests, NYAP’s list of internship providers is always changing. While we do have a handful of dependable internship providers we’ve worked with for years, faculty reliably send students to new internships each semester.
